Shinfield residents walk out of Wokingham Council Debate
A petition with over 1600 signatures trying to save yet another Shinfield green field disappearing under even more development was debated at an extraordinary Wokingham Borough Council Executive meeting on 24 Jan.
The meeting was attended by a large number of residents who witnessed a number of disrespectful behaviours by Councillors. One Senior Councillor was pictured continually texting on her phone while residents were presenting their petition. Others were seen passing around and signing a ‘get well’ or ‘sorry you are leaving’ card. They could not even be bothered to listen!
Residents walked out after a pre-printed motion was presented and other motions ignored. This was seen as the debate being predetermined and an example of WBC simply not listening and not caring about residents.
